"Pesticides and Cancer: Acting on what we already know was the topic of a community forum presented October 26, 2006 by Cedar Valley Cancer Committee's Beyond Pink Team Iowa and Breast Cancer Edu-action. Dr. Kamyar Enshayan presented recent evidence linking a variety of commonly used weed killers and insecticides to cancer and other chronic diseases. He discussed prevention strategies for individuals and the community. Dr. Enshayan is a Program Manager at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education at the University of Northern Iowa.
At least fifty citizens attended the program
and brainstormed ways to reduce pesticides in the Cedar Valley.
Over 25 attendees agreed to provide follow up action on the
following topics: The IBCE Pesticide
Reduction Group has beeen working on the projects to reduce
pesticides in Cedar Valley.
